CARGO OWNERS have gone to court over the February 22, 1998 collision at sea off the Eastern Cape coast - between the ships Platon and Trust 38.
The Platon was carrying a cargo of bagged rice and its cargo hold was extensively damaged in the collision. The Trust 38 was also
damaged, but apparently with no damage to her cargo.
First action instituted in London was by Platon's cargo owners against the ship-owners.
This has been settled.
Second case is in SA, with maritime legal specialists Findlay & Tait acting for Platon's cargo owners against the Trust 38 in a case being heard in Port Elizabeth this week.
The third sea battle is between the two ship-
owners - a matter which
has not yet been set down for trial.
