INTTRA, the 5-line neutral transportation portal on the internet, has set a March start-up date according to Safmarine's IT specialist Richard Downing.
The first step has been standardisation of the various systems. Workshops have been held to tidy up procedures and build the interface which will ultimately create an end-to- end service. Customers will have access to a variety of functions from track and trace and container booking requests and confirmations to bill of lading information and reports and statistics.
Investment players are Maersk Sealand, P&O Nedlloyd, Hamburg Sud, Mediterranean Shipping Company and CMA/CGM, with Safmarine, Crowley American Transport Line, Columbus Line and Alianca Nevegacao E Logistica also interacting on the system.
Competing carriers have recognised the need for a common platform which offers the client a single entry point for all participating lines.
Carriers will however continue to compete on individual service performances.
