IT WILL be a year of mergers as companies try to buy market share.
That's the way Lee Botti, head of employment agency, Lee Botti & Associates, sees the freight industry going in 2001.
It's going to be a fiercely competitive market, she added, and that's going to trigger a greater demand for skills in the staff market.
It will, therefore, put pressure on employees to be multi-skilled, Botti told FTW.
Again, it's going to be the larger companies doing the training and creating the jobs, she added, with the smaller companies having to pay for what skills come on the market.
There'll be a price war for the most skilled, said Botti, leading to an increase in salary levels for the highly-skilled.
There are going to be a lot more people looking at temp and contract staff, Botti added, in
this 2001 freight business scenario.
