A NATIONAL bargaining council aimed at regulating the maritime industry has been established.
This development follows the 1996 White Paper on Transport outlining the government's vision for the transport industry's four prime sectors of sea, air, road and rail.
According to the CCMA, which was called in last November to facilitate the process, an advanced stage has now been reached and a draft constitution has been circulated among the industry. A series of workshops will be held at Richards Bay, Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, Mossel Bay, Cape Town, Saldanha and City Deep during June,
to discuss issues and details.
