ALITALIA is planning to sue its former strategic partner KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for US$255 million in damages over the latter's abrupt withdrawal from their recent business partnership.
That's according to Internet news service SchedNet which claims that Alitalia's refusal to refund $102 million to KLM which the Dutch airline had originally given towards Milan's new Malpensa 2000 airport is at the heart of the dispute. The airline says that KLM has no grounds for claiming back its contribution, and Alitalia reserves the right to sue for damages incurred by KLM's illegitimate withdrawal from the alliance.
