MTN and UPS
join forces
SOUTH AFRICAN cellular network MTN and international courier company UPS (United Parcel Service) have joined forces to launch an 'anywhere, anytime' parcel tracking service.
The service allows anyone to track the whereabouts of a parcel in transit by simply using their cellular phone.
Whether you are in the office or on the move, customers can now be notified instantly of the status of their parcel.
Using the MTN SMS messaging system, the customer merely sends an SMS quoting the waybill code to the MTN number 0833 012 012, and within seconds an SMS will be returned, giving delivery status of the parcel.
Said chief executive officer UPS South Africa, Konrad Peter: We have recognised that it is not only shipping managers and secretaries who need to ascertain where their shipments are, but any company and individual who needs to make use of a courier service.
All GSM subscribers in South Africa and internationally will have free access to this service, provided they have the ability to send SMS messages to an MTN number. Although access to the service is free, SMS messaging will be charged at standard rates as per the tariff plan for subscribers, says Barry Gonin, new business development manager at MTN.
