WHEN BOOKING containers with a shipping line be sure to mention the type of cargo to be exported and stipulate whether the cargo is sensitive to water.
This is the advice from Hellmann Logistics which recently had cause to investigate why one of its exporting clients had received a run of substandard containers.for packing sensitive cargo.
The line concerned advised that any verbal mention of the type of cargo to be exported be followed up in writing by fax or email.
This not only gives the lines an idea of the kind of container to send but also covers the exporter in the event of a claim if the instruction is not adhered to by the line concerned.
Accepting substandard containers also leaves the shipper vulnerable later on to possible costs for repair of the container.
