MAY DAY saw the introduction of the revised bunker adjustment factor (BAF) on seafreight traffic between Europe and Southern Africa. The BAF (the lines’ fuel surcharge) has been increased by 3.6%, to US$201/TEU, for general cargo, and by 9.3% to US$305/TEU for refrigerated traffic. This was hard on the heels of the April 15 upward adjustment of the BAF by 12% to US$280/TEU for traffic between SA, East Africa, India, Pakistan and the Gulf on April 15.
