EIGHTEEN MONTHS since Grindrod PCA launched Grindrod Express Consolidators (GXC), growth has outstripped expectation, says GXC general manager André Langedyk. The division was established in September 2004 to cater for the growing courier consolidation market, says Langedyk. “It is essentially a domestic freight wholesaler offering a range of services from non priority to overnight express cargo and utilising capacity on all major airlines serving domestic routes.” Its product palette includes ‘starlight express’ which caters for containerised cargo, offering added security and easy and rapid retrieval at destination, says Langedyk. “The division’s strategic location on or near the airport in all major centres is a major advantage, ensuring that all time-sensitive cargo reaches the airlines well within the required deadlines.” Grindrod’s buying power with the airlines is a further benefit, says Langedyk, “We get the best rates from airlines and pass them on to our clients in the form of a discount structure linked to volumes and payment terms.” GXC has branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, George and East London with agents in Bloemfontein and Kimberley. Other centres served by scheduled carriers can be catered for.
