THE TRANSPORT industry has lost 8 236 employees over the past year, according to unemployment figures released by Statistics South Africa.
The countryÕs official unemployment figure now stands at 25,8%. There was a total loss of 35 141 jobs from December 2000 in the formal, non-agricultural business sector.
The decrease in the transport, storage and communication industry was mainly due to retrenchment of permanent and casual employees in governmental insitutions.
