The City of Cape Town’s investment in the Business Processing Outsource sector (BPO) has paid off, generating investment of over R4,7 billion over the past five years.
That’s according to James Vos, mayoral committee member for economic opportunities and asset management.
In a statement Vos said the sector had been identified as a priority for the city specifically due to its job creating potential.
“During the past financial year alone, we secured over 4 022 employment opportunities through this sector,” he said, indicating that the sector had shown a steady year-on-year growth of 22% during the past four years.
BPO services primarily include back-office operations.
“This is a vibrant industry that is full of opportunity and young talent. This sector has key leverage that we can use to position Cape Town as a globally competitive city,” Vos said.
