VIRGIN ATLANTIC Airways' second weekly direct Cape Town-London flight took off on Monday despite attempts by rivals British Airways to have the service stopped.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority rescued the situation by upholding an appeal lodged by Virgin. Initial approval had been granted in December but was suspended after BA had filed an appeal claiming it should have been granted the additional flight.
Virgin has been told the new approval has an interim tag attached to it until the outcome of the full appeal hearing is made known.
The flight departed Cape Town on Monday at 09h20 and will continue at that time with a scheduled arrival in London at 19h35.
