SAECS ceases Algeciras call
SAFMARINE IS strengthening its West Africa coverage in the Mediterranean-West/Southern Africa trade lane with the addition of three ships to its current four vessel fleet.
What is titled the Lisa string (one of nine rotations within the Safmarine group devoted to West Africa - comprising 26 ships in total, serving 24 countries) will now have seven ships offering a weekly service connecting Portugal/Spain with Angola, Namibia and SA.
Cargo to-and-from the Med region will connect with the Lisa string through Safmarine's shipping network and dedicated terminal at Algeciras.
The development of the service also removes the need for SAECS (Southern Africa Europe Container Service) to call at this Spanish port.
While Maersk - Safmarine's sister company in the A P Moller group - is a vessel provider, and the Lisa string is currently marketed under the CMBT trading name, the whole service is soon to be tidily packaged under the Safmarine brand.
This, Safmarine's Richard Warnes told FTW, follows a decision made by the board of Safmarine Container Lines (SCL) to move towards the unified, single, global brand - Safmarine.
