GO-KART RACING and airline freight consignments may have little in common, but the former was the vehicle employed by KLM Cargo and Alitalia Cargo in Johannesburg and Cape Town last week to launch the first phase of their new working alliance.
The initial step in their Select Cargo operation to and from South Africa, which was started on February 1, is confined to general cargo. Perishables and other special cargo are still on the meeting agendas between the two airlines with announcements on their start-up dates to be made later this year.
But the whole focus is on getting cargo to its destination in stipulated time periods, hence the title of the launch 'It Is About Time'
