Following the signing of a petroleum exploration agreement with the Zimbabwean government in March last year, and following the completion of surveys and the arrival of equipment, Australia’s Invictus Energy will officially begin drilling in August, reports SABC.
Drilling for oil and gas in the Muzarabani area of Zimbabwe was originally set to begin in June, but was postponed due to customs delays in Tanzania, where the equipment was mobilised, and in Mozambique, where it arrived en route.
Results of a recent seismic survey in the area revealed more potential oil and gas than previously anticipated. It is believed that this could possibly be the largest undrilled, seasonally defined structure in Africa, with 247 million barrels of gas condensate estimated to be contained within the structure.
