The recent “train the trainers”
workshop in Blantyre,
Malawi, saw revenue authority
representatives from 13 of
the 15 member states of the
Southern African Development
Community (SADC) attending,
according to information
released to FTW by Mike
Fitzmaurice owner/director of
Port Elizabeth-based Transport
Logistics Consultants (TLC).
The five-day workshop, he
added, was one of the major
steps towards establishing an
efficient transit system that
would enable SADC member
states to achieve regional
integration goals.
The Malawi Revenue
Authority (MRA) deputy
commissioner of customs and
excise (technical), Eleanor
Chirwa, said: “This workshop
is an opportunity for us to boost
our efforts towards reducing
our operational cost and transit
challenges faced by our business
partners.”
TLC was the first company to
successfully complete one-stop
border post (OSBP) monitoring
projects in Africa at Beitbridge
in 2005/2006 and Chirundu in
2006/2007 for the World Bank
and the Federation of Southern
African Road Transport
Associations (Fesarta).
