No confirmation has been received yet about the level of damage to a CMA CGA vessel that crashed into a pier in India over the weekend.
The French ocean freighter’s newbuild vessel, CMA CGM Mumbai, was busy docking in Jawaharlal Nehru Port when its steering mechanism apparently failed.
Positioned at a right angle to the pier, the 10 000-TEU carrier failed to turn in time before edging into the pier.
Various reports confirmed that damage to the pier and the vessel was limited.
The Mumbai had only recently been completed by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and was delivered to Canadian shipping owners Seaspan in May.
It is on lease to CMA CGM for three years.
