A container vessel suffered an engine room fire while off the North Sea coast in Dutch water, prompting a significant emergency response from local authorities, including the deployment of coastguard helicopters and lifeboats.
According to Sky News, the Victoria L was carrying 19 crew members when the fire was reported.
There have been no confirmed reports of injuries, and all personnel are believed to be safe.
The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
The Dutch coastguard confirmed that they had received a distress call from the Victoria L, which was about 60 kilometres off the Rotterdam coast in an area known as the Hoek van Holland (Corner of the Netherlands).
While early reports circulated conflicting information about the ship’s origin, it has been confirmed that the Victoria L is not a ‘Dutch container ship’.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether the Victoria L is in fact German or Dutch-flagged, with no definitive statement from maritime authorities.
Efforts to fully extinguish the fire and assess damage to the vessel are ongoing, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
More information is expected as authorities continue their response.
