TWO EXTRA flights a week on the Heathrow-Cape Town route are to be introduced by Virgin Atlantic from October 20, according to Chris Ingall, g.m. of the airlineÕs SA general sales agents (GSA), Air Cargo Partners (ACP).
"This seasonal service is as we always planned," he told FTW, "meeting the big increase in passenger traffic at this peak time of the year with extra capacity."
On Wednesday and Sunday, the extra flights are operated as an overnight service on the southbound leg, and daylight on the northbound Ð allowing almost instant turnaround for the aircraft.
In the peak weeks from December 2 to January 6, Virgin will have a further three flights a week on Monday, Friday and Saturday.
"They will all be non-stop Heathrow to Cape Town," said Ingall, "using the Airbus A340-300 aircraft."
All these additional flights will have a cargo allocation and bookings can be made through ACPÕs Cape Town branch.
