Transporters working supply-chain into Botswana have been informed that a government decision to institute coronavirus-curbing measures over the upcoming long weekend does not apply to essential service workers.
That’s according to a notice by the country’s Covid-19 Task Force that has been shared on the WhatsApp group of the Transit Assistance Bureau (Transist).
The notice reads: “In order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and the resulting deaths, movement of peoples during the Easter Holidays will be restricted. Members of the public who are in possession of valid inter-zonal permits are advised that those permits are invalidated with immediate effect (March 30).”
The notice advised invalidated permit holders to apply for “a once-off permit”, valid for 24 hours, that will allow people to complete return journeys.
More importantly for the freight industry, the notice distributed by Transist said: “Essential workers executing their duties and in possession of permits are not affected by the invalidation or imposed movement restriction. As a result, they should continue to provide essential services.”
