Three Ghanaian stowaways in search of greener pastures had their voyage cut short last week when they were nabbed mid-voyage in Namibian waters.
Emmanuel Agyei (45), Akesse Francis Alan (46), and Samuel Yalley (45), all from Elmina in the central region of Ghana, said they had embarked the vessel, Kota Lumba, with a bamboo ladder in late September.
They were caught when they left their hiding place in search of food and water after theirs had run out. They were transferred to a sister vessel, Kota Salam, at Walvis Bay for repatriation to Ghana.
Although they had no prior idea where the ship was going, they were hopeful it would be destined for a country that offered better opportunities because they said they weren’t able to make ends meet.
