The exportation of non-oil products from Iran to South Africa has increased by 500% year-on-year, the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) has revealed.
According to the head of the TPOI, Alireza Peyman-Pak, exports to South Africa showed a considerable increase for the period March 2021 to March 2022.
Imports for the corresponding period were substantially lower.
Mehr News Agency reported that the value of Iranian products imported by South Africa last year stood at $48 billion.
In comparison, South Africa exported $53 billion worth of products to Iran.
Peyman-Pak said Iran’s trade with foreign countries had exceeded $100 billion in this period.
Mehr reported that Iran had registered considerable foreign trade growth in the field of petrochemicals and food products.
The TPOI chief said Iran’s export of products to neighbouring states had also increased significantly, namely by 65%, 140% and 70% to the Sultanate of Oman, Turkey and Indonesia respectively.
Returning to the continent, South Africa wasn’t the only African country that recorded a significant increase in trade with Iran, as Ghana also registered a substantial improvement in imports and exports traded with the Middle Eastern country.
