Fighting to reclaim its market position as the leading dry-dock hub in West Africa, the Tema Shipyard has just received a major boost in the form of a R43.5-million injection from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
This was, in turn, invested in some much-needed equipment, including mobile cranes, a hand blasting machine, painting machines and hydro blasting machines.
The search is now on for a strategic investor, according to Tema Shipyard MD, Captain Francis Micah, who believes that with the right funding the shipyard would be able to unleash its full capacity.
The yard carried out repairs on 12 vessels in the first quarter of this year.
