The management of Nigeria’s largest and busiest deep-sea port, Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL) and Lagos Free Zone (LFZ) of the Ibeju-Lekki area, has announced the launch of new shipping services in collaboration with Cosco, Ocean Network Express (ONE), and ZIM.
This significant development was marked by the arrival of the vessel EA Centaurus, as reported by an official release from the LFZ.
The EA Centaurus, measuring 277 metres in length and capable of handling 7 000 TEU containers, is the largest vessel from Cosco to dock in Nigeria.
Christophe Cassang, CEO of Lekki Freeport Terminal, highlighted that the strategic partnership with leading global shipping companies such as Cosco, ONE and ZIM was aimed at enhancing Nigeria's position on the international trade stage.
He expressed confidence that this collaboration would create new opportunities for trade and industry within Nigeria and the broader region.
Cassang emphasised that the terminal boasted a skilled workforce dedicated to overcoming future challenges and was equipped with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure tailored to meet the evolving demands of shipping lines and their customers.
Du Ruogang, managing director of Lekki Port, said the bi-weekly services provided by the consortium were instrumental in achieving the port’s vision of significantly increasing cargo volumes.
Ruogang said it would establish Lekki Port as a pivotal player in enhancing Nigeria's maritime sector and improving overall business efficiency across the country.
