RAY SMUTS SA PORT Operations has donated around R1 million worth of clothing and four containers to hundreds of families affected by fires that ravaged the Western Cape recently. Cape Town container terminal business executive, Oscar Borchards, says: “This donation is part of our response to disasters and crises within the communities in which our employees were born and grew up.” The donation was accepted by non-governmental organisation Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDI) which co-ordinates the distribution of relief to families and community representatives of Khayelitsha, one of the townships affected by fires resulting from hot and dry conditions.
