JOY ORLEK CAPE TOWN-based TD Shipping and Clearing has carved a lucrative niche in the export of upmarket furniture to Dubai and Saudi Arabia. It’s a market that has developed over the past ten years, with cargo moving as CKD (completely knocked down) units by sea on an ex works to port basis. “We supply 5-star hotels in the region, and although business has slowed down recently, we were moving around15-20 forty foot containers a year. The US, Australia and South America are also growing export markets for the product,” says Moodley. Established five years ago, the company offers a comprehensive logistics package including air, sea and road imports and exports, customs clearing and forwarding, warehousing and insurance. Its business is predominantly import-orientated, with Far East imports dominating. Moodley, who has more than 35 years experience in the industry, has linked up with a worldwide international network of agents.
