THIS WEEK the multi-trade carrier Safmarine has started an integral reefer (refrigerated) container service on its weekly service between main seaports in Southern Africa and Australia.
This direct service provides for reefer cargo to SA and multitrade destinations, including the Indian Ocean Islands, East and West Africa and East Coast South America.
It is added to the long-standing general containerised cargo service the line has offered on this trade in an agreement with MSC, according to Saf's Antwerp-based executive, Victor Shieh.
In addition to standard reefer equipment, the line also has controlled atmosphere (CA) containers available.
Sales and marketing at both ends of the trade is directly handled by the network of Safmarine offices while the line also has a 50% shareholding in SATI (Southern Africa Transport Investments) which owns and operates a reefer container maintenance and storage depot in Cape Town.
