amid buoyant
cargo bookings
CARGO BOOKINGS on Kenya Airlines flights to and from Nairobi continue on a positive note, and more space will become available as and when the airline introduces the Boeing B767-300ER on its daily service.
"Right now loads are good, as business between the two countries prospers and, of course, there is good space for transhipment flights to Europe from Nairobi," says John Dickson, managing director of SA Airlink Cargo, handling agents in this country
At present, however, the B767 is used on the Sunday run, while the smaller B737-700 is operated on other days, with limited freight capacity.
The airline is currently awaiting delivery of B777s which it has bought, and which will be used on the Nairobi-London and Nairobi-Amsterdam routes. This will release the B767s for more regular use to and from South Africa.
Passenger volumes will however determine when the bigger aircraft are brought into service on the Nairobi-Johannesburg route. The current load factor is in the region of 72%, but the upcoming European summer normally increases this, which will probably encourage the daily use of the 767s.
