Grindrod Mauritius has landed a five-year graphite distribution and logistics services supply contract at the world’s largest graphite deposit, the Balama Project in Mozambique.
According to a statement by Australian company Syrah Resources, which owns and operates Balama, the contract requires Grindrod to provide trucking services for the graphite concentrate product from the mine to the Port of Nacala, build and operate a cross dock facility (CDF) 4.7km from the port, and provide trucking services from the CDF to the port.
“The Balama Project represents an opportunity for Grindrod to provide services across a range of business units and establishes a comprehensive pit-to-port solution,” said Grindrod executive for business development, Walter Grindrod.
The contract will become effective following the conclusion of security arrangements, receipt of relevant permits and approvals and the finalisation of arrangements with operators at Nacala Port.
