Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works, Donald Grant, is set to officially open the newly completed Swartberg Pass in Prince Albert today (Tuesday).
The year-long project was initiated in April last year after flash floods in the area caused significant damage, washing away the section of the Pass between its entrance on the Prince Albert side of the Swartberg Mountain and Tweede Water
The Swartberg Pass is an important road in the Prince Albert area, providing key economic linkages.
Construction activities on the R20-million project included the rebuilding of retaining structures, road layerworks, and re-gravelling of flood-damaged portions of the road.
