THE HELICOPTER used by Portnet to ferry marine pilots to and from ships off the Port of Richards Bay is back in service, following the fatal accident earlier in June when a Filipino seaman on board the coal ship Ambassador was killed by the aircraft's tail rotor blades.
The accident, which took place after the aircraft had landed on the ship to drop off a marine pilot, is the subject of an enquiry involving Portnet, the Civil Aviation authorities and various other official bodies.
The helicopter has a new tail rotor blade and has been returned to service.
