Saturday saw the implementation by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Lagos of a new Revenue and Invoice Management System (Rims) designed to improve port operations and revenue generation.
According to the NPA’s managing director, Hadiza Bala Usman, the Rims system will use internet-based devices and technology to block revenue leakages which will in turn strengthen operational processes and enhance the exclusion of “unnecessary human interfaces” in doing business at the ports.
She stated that the new ‘customer portal’ would also provide a platform for clients to fast track transactions at ports and communicate more efficiently with management. “This will further enhance progress on the Single Window Platform with strategic automation in conjunction with the Nigeria Customs Service,” added Usman.
The Single Window Trade Platform is a cross-government website which aims to facilitate trade in Nigeria by offering a single portal for trade actors to access a range of services and resources from different government agencies.
NPA executive director of Finance and Administration, Mohammed Bello Koko, pointed out that Rims would improve profitability and ensure uniform tariff rates across all port locations while enhancing the accuracy of documentation.
