The appointment of Clive Smith as chief executive officer of Africa Union Cargo (AUC) has ushered in a “new dawn” for the Zambia terminal in the port of Walvis Bay and its related logistics services.AUC operates the 30 000-square-metre bonded terminal in the port of Walv s Bay.
“The company offers a full supply chain, cargo solution to all SADC countries with a core focus on Namibia, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Botswana. Based inside the port, the secure terminal can handle all types of cargo – frozen, dry, containerised, breakbulk, bulk and out of gauge," says Smith.Since the arrival of Smith in January, AUC has implemented new strategies and operating procedures both at its terminal and headquarters to further improve service levels, he says.One of his priorities as CEO is to grow the AUC global portfolio of services through strategic partnerships in the fields of agriculture, mining, commodity trading, financial services, food security, ICT, health and end-to-end supply chain solutions.
“We encourage all businesses in Namibia and surrounding countries to explore synergies to offer all cargo-related sectors a full, professional, efficient and cost-effective solution through the port of Wa lv i s Bay and our fa ci lit y,” says Smith, who is one of the most experienced logistics professionals in the region.Before joining AUC, he was the acting CEO at the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) for nearly two years, while continuing in his role as project manager for the Namibia Logistics Hub.He has been a member of the board of the Roads Authority of Namibia since 2017.
Until recently he also served as a director at the Namibia Trade Forum, in addition to holding various roles on a number of national committees in the areas of transport and trade.With over 20 years’ background in logistics and the network, he has built up, Smith says he is building on the relationship AUC has with Namport, the WBCG, and local and international businesses to further promote the Namibian West Africa port and corridors to all neighbouring countries.
