Although it’s still subject to approval, Mediterranean Shipping Company is in the process of adding the Darsena Toscana terminal at the Port of Livorno on the Tyrrhenian Sea to its rapidly expanding portfolio of maritime assets.
The deal is between MSC’s ports division, Terminal Investment Limited, and Gruppo Investimenti Portuali (GIP), a principal terminal operator and logistics provider in Italy.
If approved by GIP, TIL will acquire 100% of Darsena Toscana’s share capital.
The terminal, which serves cities like Florence and Pisa, came into operation in 1997 and was bought by GIP in 2012.
It is also Italy’s principal terminal for cold chain cargo and boasts a seamless port-to-railway system that is fully automated and free from any unnecessary handling delays.
TIL already runs 50% of the Lorenzini Terminal at the same port.
Both terminals will be independently operated, a report out of Singapore has stated.
