Qatar Airways Cargo became the first international airline to launch a direct freighter service to Yangon, Myanmar, yesterday (Sunday).
According to a statement, the once-weekly service is aimed at providing additional capacity to support the country’s garment exports as well as other commodities such as fresh produce and food products.
It is also aimed at facilitating pharmaceutical imports to Myanmar from Europe.
“Since the country’s liberalisation, Myanmar has had the fastest-growing economy in the ASEAN region, and foreign investment in local trade has seen tremendous growth,” said Qatar Airways Cargo acting chief officer, Guillame Halleux.
He noted that the country’s airfreight exports and imports had risen by 87% and 58%, respectively, since 2014.
