Maersk Line’s new second generation Triple-E class vessels could well be exceeding the current mega-ship record of 20 000 TEU, according to online sources.
An official report of the vessels breaking the 20 000-TEU record is yet to be released but Alphaliner experts have been able to discern that the ships could have a “notably higher capacity” than the initially projected capacity of 19 630 TEU.
Online daily maritime news provider gCaptain quoted Maersk Line CEO Søren Skou as having previously stated that load factors were reaching record highs.
“First images from the shipyard suggest that Maersk Line has extensively modified the design of the ships to further increase container intake,” said a spokesperson from Aplhaliner. “The biggest modification is the clear change in bridge position, having moved two bays forward and also shifting the engine room.”
