Durban has always played a
central role in the freight
industry in South Africa
thanks to its active seaport.
With most of the larger
freight companies having
offices in the city, many being
headquarters, it is important
for any company serving
this sector to have a strong
Durban presence, says Nachi
Mendelow of Compu-Clearing.
The Durban branch is headed
up by Miguel Viera and account
representative Junaid Ali. “We
have linked our Johannesburg
training room with voice and
video to both our Durban and
Cape Town training rooms as
well. Effectively this means
we offer live training on all of
our modules, in both Durban
and Cape Town, at least once a
month,” says Mendelow.
“Agents often have clients
represented across South
Africa and deal with them
on a national level. It is an
important requirement that
these clients all share a single
account with a single credit
limit check. Compu-Clearing
has live national credit limit
checking at bill of entry level.
In effect if any branch does
an entry that pushes a client
past his credit limit, then the
entry will be suspended. This
entry will not be able to be sent
to Customs unless payments
are posted, the credit limit is
uplifted, or finally a senior
manager releases it.”
The company also provides
Trade & Track as a complete
tracking and costing solution.
“With Trade & Track,
milestones can be set against
the shipment to ensure that
the goods arrive on time. It
also allows for importers to
track their shipments direct
from their desktops. Trade
& Track also provides for
communication between
relevant parties and the storage
of documents against the
shipments.”
