A hijacked truck transporting around R3 million worth of alcoholic beverages has been recovered by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s K-9 Unit.
The truck was stolen on Saturday at a Grasmere petrol station and the K-9 Unit was able to trace it due to an activated tracker signal, according to a statement released by the City of Johannesburg yesterday (Monday).
Officers found the truck in Bekkersdal with the driver tied up inside the vehicle. The driver told police that the goods had been offloaded at a separate location and officers were able to track the goods to a house in Randfontein.
“One assailant was apprehended for the possession of stolen goods and a case was opened,” said City spokesperson, Luyanda Longwe. “The truck and the goods have been returned to the owner.”
