1998 has proved itself to be one of the more difficult fruit trading years in recent times, says Independent Fruit Growers Association chairman Valdy Jensen.
For South Africans this has been exacerbated by the anticipated developments in the immediate aftermath of deregulation, he says. We have seen confusion in the services chain, careless choice of agents by some and disruptive tactics by others.
According to Jensen, the only silver lining is that South African producers are experiencing a steep learning curve. Given the tenacity and resilience of the farming sector,
