The Indian logistics industry is at a tipping point – and ripe for change. That’s according to Xerxes Master, vice president of the Association of Multimodal Transport Operators of India (AMTOI), who says there’s a strong focus on collaboration, while efforts are under way to upgrade neglected infrastructure.Valued at $215 billion, the sector is highly fragmented with only 10-15% of the market run by organised players.“With AMTOI we have brought all the stakeholders under one umbrella and are speaking to the government with one voice to address areas of concern. We have also created a forum where issues can be brought to the table and directed to the correct party in order to seek resolution without unpleasantness or litigation.”In recent years, the Indian government has also realised the benefits of multimodalism and is actively supporting several initiatives, including the development of Indian river waterways and ports.
