Individual needs must be catered for

WAREHOUSE FACILITIES need to cater for the needs of individual clients, says Birkart Globistics Port Elizabeth branch manager Robert Schmidt.
In providing this service, Birkart includes rebated and bonded facilities, offering the client relief from the financial constraints of import duties, he says.
The type of warehouse will depend on the commodity being imported or produced locally. In this respect the client’s industry is investigated to establish the best possible warehouse solution. An extensive international network enables Birkart to arrange for the ex-works collection, especially for the consolidation into cost effective, viable consignments.
It is, however, not merely the import and local distribution markets that must be considered, says Schmidt.
“The financial climate in our country is still conducive to exports. Companies currently involved in export projects are finding their products are competitively priced internationally resulting in a higher demand. The need for higher volumes often places pressure on the manufacturing concern and its resources resulting in the need to outsource certain functions.
“That is why we offer clients not only the knowledge and expertise of a freight forwarder but that of a logistics provider, streamlining the material flow from the supplier to the end user along the complete supply chain.
“Our fully-fledged bar coding warehouse management system keeps control of all aspects of the material flow within the warehouse environment including customs and excise inventory requirements.”
The Birkart group’s warehousing facilities in South Africa control all aspects of warehousing, helping to reduce transport costs through synergies with other projects, he says.
