THE EVERGREEN Group has embarked on a massive fleet expansion programme which will see the line taking delivery of two more 5000 teu U-type container ships next year. The company will have three in service by the end of the year.
It will build eight further ships in this class which will join the fleet in 1999.
Evergreen will have 108 vessels in its fleet by the end of 1998 and the combined shipping capacity of its container ship fleet will top 270 000 teus.
The number of ships in Evergreen's fleet will be further increased by 1999 to 116 with slot capacity topping 300 000 teus.
