CONSOLIDATED METALLURGICAL Industries (CMI) has won the 12th annual Presidents Award for Export Achievement, presented by deputy president Thabo Mbeki at a special function last week.
CMI was one of 20 companies honoured for their commitment to exports.
The Department of Trade and Industry said that this year more entries than ever had been received.
The awards are made to companies that promote their goods and services overseas and help SA to raise its profile internationally.
CMI is one of the world's largest ferrochrome producers, selling beneficiated products to most of the world's industrial markets.
A merit award was given to Consani Engineering, a bulk tank and container manufacturer. Over the past three years the company has grown its exports to be almost 70% of its production.
