Coega will open this year - Transnet

Ngqura, which forms part of the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) development in the Eastern Cape, will be operational by the “end of 2005,” according to the 2003/2004 Transnet annual report. “Securing tenants for the new port of Ngqura in line with expected port completion dates,” is stated as one of the NPA’s objectives for the next year. In her report, group chief executive Maria Ramos states “our investment in Coega is long term. Our commitment to upgrade infrastructure at our ports is further demon­strated by the arrival of three cranes at the Port of Durban and the additional capacity that has come onstream at the Durban car terminal”.
