CMA CGM will levy an emergency congestion surcharge on all shipments at the Port of Zanzibar, Tanzania, from May 15, the line announced yesterday.
The charge of US$100 per 20 foot container and US$200 per 40 foot container must be prepaid, and is payable at origin.
It applies to all imports to Zanzibar originating from the Middle East, Pakistan, the Red Sea and the west coast of India. This includes dry, reefer, out of gauge (OOG) cargo and breakbulk.
The line said that the surcharge was a result of the “increasing deterioration of port congestion” with waiting times of up to 15 days.
