CLEARING AND forwarding
specialist Cargocare Freight
Services was recently awarded BEE
Level 3 certification, but as FTW
discovered, such social upliftment
has been inherent in the Cargocare
ethos for the past 12 years.
“This certification is simply a
documenting of what we have
been doing for years,” explains
newly promoted operations
director Sue Wood.
The company has been focusing
on the human resources element
of business since its inception in
1995, actively contributing to skills
development which translates into
what Wood describes as “organic
growth.”
It’s a financial game but you
need people to make the wheels
go round. “We are all very hands
on, and it’s a culture we want to
nurture to meet the needs of our
clients.”
The BEE Codes of Good Practice
released in February this year and
drafted by the Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI) are used
to set the standard of calculations
for BEE scorecards. Cargocare
has a Generic Scorecard (GS),
but like everyone else they are
still awaiting ratification of the
Industry Specific Scorecards (ISS)
by the DTI.
“We have been preparing for
this forced stage of employment
equity since the beginning, but
it’s still nice to meet the criteria
and receive this certification,” says
Wood.
