Congestion east of Mozambique’s Ressano Garcia Border Post with South Africa has resulted in trucks and other vehicles queueing three lanes abreast for at least 10 kilometres.
This was reported to the Transit Assistance Bureau (Transist) this morning after Mozambique yesterday requested clearing agents and customs authorities at Lebombo Border Post not to let anyone through.
It remains uncertain whether any border personnel in South Africa acceded to this request.
The request from officials east of the border came after Mozambique said it was trying to clear a blockage at Ressano Garcia.
Earlier yesterday a broken-down truck reportedly also contributed to the building back-up of waiting transit traffic.
