THE AIRPORTS Company South Africa (ACSA) is being held up as a template of how privatisation works, and this is being shown at various international conferences, says m.d. Dirk Ackerman.
The privatisation of airports is the flavour of the decade and we are moving rapidly in other developments in that area, he says.
With its 20% strategic equity partner on board, ACSA has the muscle to add to its expertise and move on to airports other than those it already controls, and is focusing its interests on countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
It is already a partner in the consortium that manages Kilimanjaro Airport in Kenya and is negotiating with other similar places.
At the same time its recently-formed property wing, PropCo, is busy marketing the 3 000ha of vacant land it does not need for aviation purposes at airports around the country.
