Ngqura Container Terminal (NCT) has taken delivery of 50 new haulers to increase citrus loading rates as mid-season approaches.
Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) said on Tuesday that the latest delivery forms part of the port operator’s focus on improving equipment reliability and efficiency in terms of Transnet’s recovery plan.
The acquisition of the new haulers, which are used to move containers within the terminal, will provide relief to the technical team that oversees planned maintenance.
TPT managing executive in the Eastern Cape, Wandisa Vazi, said the additional resources would enable the terminal’s team to uphold its promises to customers.
“The arrival of these haulers will make it possible for us to achieve current financial year targets,” Vazi said.
She added that the expanded equipment fleet would improve reliability and efficiency.
TPT said the Citrus Growers Association had already commended the terminal for setting a benchmark for efficiency during the current export season.
NCT is the fourth TPT terminal to receive equipment in the last five months. The Port of Richards Bay took delivery of 75 dumpers and 35 payloaders and the Port of Durban took delivery of 35 haulers in March, while the Port of Cape Town received 10 haulers in June.
