Tanzania has reinstated approval for its leading neighbour’s national carrier, Kenya Airways, to operate flights between Nairobi and Tanzania’s commercial capital of Dar es Salaam.
In a tit-for-tat move, Tanzania announced on Monday that it had banned Kenya Airways flights after Nairobi refused to grant a request to Tanzania’s national carrier, Air Tanzania, to operate cargo flights between both nations.
Tanzania Air said that the request had been granted.
The move was of sufficient urgency for the two countries' foreign ministers to confer about the issue, resulting in it being resolved.
“Following this development, the aeronautical authorities of the United Republic of Tanzania hereby withdraw its decision of January 15, and therefore approval for Kenya Airways to operate between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam is hereby restored,” said the state-run Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority.
